My first triathlon was an SBR race in Harriman State Park, NY in 1989 - That summer I was doing morning long-course workouts with my swim team and then when the team went to their second workout inside for short course, I'd ride 27 miles each day to my lifeguarding job and then a few of those days I'd run halfway home. My 18-speed way-too-big-for-me-Raleigh-maroon touring bike did not have a power meter or even an odometer.

After college, and without a bike worth riding, I discovered Marathon running in NYC (as one does). From that base and my history with swimming, I set out to find and place in the hardest and weirdest races around, i.e. 7x Survival of the Shawangunks and 5x American Zofingen, both in New Paltz, NY, and the 4x Tour of Battenkill. After a few years on and off the podium in my respective age groups, it was time for Ironman. Napa, April 2014. Met my goal time. Won the race. Back to bike racing in NYC trying to race enough to get to Cat3.

Covid and my 50th birthday combined to yield my first few Ultras and a homegrown 50 Mile run with friends for my birthday. It also brought SwimRun into focus for me. More to come there for sure.

100 miles next but not before getting my pace back with a few old favorites. Some 70.3s and SOS on the schedule for 2023.

Bring it on.
